Art At Your Fingertips is a Palos Verdes Art Center school-based outreach program. This program brings visual arts education to elementary school classrooms from developmental kindergarten through sixth grade. Started in 1976 by PVAC volunteers dismayed by the loss of art education in the schools, 300 volunteer docents attend ten on-site workshops in order to deliver five, quality, standards-based art projects to 7,000 students grades TK-5 in public and private school on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This venerable program has developed partnerships to expand PVAC’s reach beyond the Peninsula to ethnically diverse, underserved students throughout Los Angeles County.
At training workshops, the artist who developed each project teaches the volunteers who, in turn, teach the students in their individual classrooms. Training stresses the methodology as well as the art historical and cultural context for each project. The program culminates each spring when more than 1,000 pieces of student art from all participating schools and grade levels fill the Art Center galleries in a month-long exhibition.
This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we go Back to Basics and present the program online. Click below for details.
Happy Holidays from Art At Your Fingertips, an outreach program of the Palos Verdes Art Center. This fun and easy Nutcracker project was designed by second-generation teaching artist Jake Tedesco, whose mother Julia was a long-time contributor to the program. Since 1976, generations of students, like Jake, have benefitted from this volunteer-administered, school-based art program that annually serves over 7,000 students in public and private schools on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, with partnerships across LA County. We are proud to continue to offer quality art instruction to students this year through our new, online learning platform. Download the Nutracker PDF at this LINK.
