Susan Jamart’s inspiration comes from a fascination with the simplicity of the under-over structure of plaiting – with the infinite possibilities of that surface on three-dimensional forms – and with the quickness of rendering them.

What is most exciting to Jamart is the process, from the selection of materials to the plaiting and finishing of a basket.  She starts out with a planned and defined number of colored elements that are interlaced at the beginning or bottom of the structure.  These color combinations create spontaneous variations and moods.
