Elise Vazelakis

Drawing from traditional basket weaving, I create textile sculptures using plastic waste as my primary medium. This series, “Driving with My Eyes Closed,” explores the intersection of the ancient twining technique with contemporary, discarded materials. These pieces are made from plastic yarn repurposed from Amazon envelopes, reflecting themes of consumption and sustainability. My work challenges viewers to reconsider their reliance on synthetic materials and reflect on a future where natural resources may no longer be accessible. By transforming waste into art, I invite a dialogue about materiality, privilege, and the environmental impact of our consumption habits.
