The Winter Show is a juried all-media online exhibition hosted by Palos Verdes Art Center open only to all Palos Verdes Art Center (PVAC) members. Not a member yet? You can join Palos Verdes Art Center at pvartcenter.org.

Juror: Peggy Sivert

Peggy Sivert (Zask) was born in Los Angeles and grew up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  She received a BA in Art Education from CSU Long Beach and an MA in Humanities from CSU Dominguez Hills.  She served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in Central America and worked as a high school art teacher in Manhattan Beach for 20 years.

Sivert has always been a working artist, exhibiting sculpture and painting regularly throughout Southern California and internationally. Consistent in her artwork are elements of horse anatomy, fragments that have long framed her life story.  Sivert is founder and executive director of SoLA Contemporary, a nonprofit art organization in South LA (previously South Bay Contemporary).

Juror’s Statement

It was such a nice surprise to receive a call from Aaron Sheppard, the curator for Palos Verdes Art Center, inviting me to jury this show at the PVAC.  It seems so long ago that I was running South Bay Contemporary in the Promenade Shopping Plaza and meeting PVAC members regularly.

This opportunity to be invited back into my neighborhood really has warmed my heart with a nostalgia that I didn’t know was inside me.

This positive feeling of connection with the art of Palos Verdes Art Center came unexpectedly and posed an influence on my view of each and every piece of art that I selected.  Looking through each calculated still life, expressive abstract, carefully composed photo or ceramic series, spoke to me of the power of art to maintain us through troubling times.   I am happy that technology is allowing us to continue on with the practice of art and exhibition and know that the work that I selected will carry with it an integrity of strength through adversity.

Thank you again for the opportunity to reconnect with PVAC and its members via the artwork. And although I would love to see the actual work and meet the artists, I truly enjoyed the process of reviewing and selecting my choice of the finest works.
