CLAUDIA PARDUCCI

Claudia Parducci’s interest lies as much in line as in fiber. The artist creates her sculptures through the tying of knots, knitting, and dyeing, making molds and casting, and rendering the image in minute detail. Her work elevates rope and twine, highlighting concepts of strength and limitation, gravity and weightlessness while playing on its contradictions of “rigidity and flexibility, hard and soft, rising and falling, rendered and physical.”

Parducci sees “line” as multiple entities: “timeline, horizon line, equatorial line, umbilical line, drafting lines, the lines that form letters and words, and ultimately make ideas concrete.” The artist views rope and twine as three-dimensional lines to be deployed as compositional elements utilizing their physical properties and histories of use and symbolic value.
